Thailand, “The Land of White Elephant” is located in South-East Asia covering an area of 513,120 square kilometers (198,120 square miles) and comprising over 69 million people. Thailand is a country with numerous beaches and cities, attracting tourists from all over the world to enjoy its picturesque environment.

People and Culture

Thailand is home to over 60 ethnic groups among which well-known are the Lao people. They are the major inhabitants of Thailand, followed by KhonMuang. Other significant groups are Pak Thai, Khmer Leu, Malay, Ngaw, Phu Thai, Kuay, and Karen. The major religion followed by the populace is Theravada Buddhism, which over time has been influenced by religious belief originating from Hinduism including worshiping of ancestors. Thai people greet others with the ‘wai’, their traditional greeting stance, which is similar to that of ‘Namaste’ with spoken words being ‘sawatdi khrap’ for male speakers, and ‘sawatdi kha’ for female speakers. The food culture in Thailand blends the five fundamental tastes: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, and Spicy. Ingredients like garlic, chilies, lime juice, lemongrass, coriander, palm sugar, and fish sauce are used in their cuisine. Rice is the staple food and is used in almost every recipe of meals.

Things to do

Thailand endows us with lots of exciting tours and visits. In Bangkok, we can take a city tour to have a glimpse of famous places like The Grand Palace, Historical Thai Houses, Wat Traimit Withayaram (Ornate temple with golden Buddha statue), Wat Arun Ratchavararam (Riverside temple with a Landmark spire), and Temple of Emerald Buddha. We can also visit the famous Chatuchak weekend market, the biggest market in Thailand, where we can buy various antique goods, enjoy good foods, and get fancy clothes.

We can also go to Pattaya, a 2-hour drive from Bangkok to enjoy the scenery and have a nice time at the beach. Sanctuary of Truth, Nong Nooch tropical garden, and Mini Siam Pattaya are the other sight-seeing landmarks we do not want to miss in Pattaya.

Chiang-Mai is another famous city we ought to visit in Thailand with famous Sight-seeing to Wat Phrathat (DoiSuthep), Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh (Golden Temple), Wat Chiang Mai, Wat Suan Dorg, and Elephant Sanctuary.

If we are in for a full-day boat ride then we can fly to Phuket city, from there we can visit Phi-Phi islands and enjoy the mesmerizing scene. Phuket city also provides us with an opportunity to visit Phuket old town, Chalong Temple, and Nakkard hills with Big Buddha Statue, from where we can enjoy the views of the Chalong and Kata Bay.


Seasons to visit Thailand

The best time to travel to Thailand is between November to early April, when the weather is cool and dry. The west coast is more favorable during the winter months. The weather on the east coast is good for most of the year, with the lowest rainfall in January and February and the highest in November.

Optimal days required for a good visit

The major sight-seeing and city tours can be done in a period of a week. However, if we are planning to visit the whole country we would need a few months.
